Pain conditions

If your patient has a refractory pain syndrome like pain after multiple spinal surgeries or has recurrent headaches and has tried almost everything with no success, a multi-disciplinary assessment of the problem and a specialized therapeutic intervention are indicated.

At our centre your patient will undergo an exhaustive diagnostic process including psychological and socio-cultural evaluation, imaging, test stimulation and drug tests for intrathecal use among others.
In general pain syndromes can be classified in two big categories or types of pain:

  • Neuropathic pain: pain due to injury of the nervous system
  • Nociceptive pain: pain due to activation of pain receptors by algogenic substances.

Generally injury to tissue other than the nervous system. It includes Visceral Pain (pain due to injury of the internal organs) and Somatic Nociceptive pain (well localized to a specific area and due to injury of the bones, muscles and blood vessels)
