How can I make an appointment?

Please call us at the Multidisciplinary Pain Centre AZ Nikolaas +32 (0) 3 760 23 18.

The secretary is available for your every day from 9:00 till 15u00.

What will happen when I come to your practice?

When you first come to our centre, you will have an interview with one of our pain specialists (Dr. J.P. van Buyten, Dr. I. Smet, Dr. Van der Puijl F.) who will discuss with you your problem and will make a proposal on how to proceed, which diagnostic procedures and tests should be performed and eventually already discuss with you possible therapies.

Please bring the latest information of your medical history provided by your general practitioner or referring physician.

What is a “therapy follow-up”?

Some pain therapies include implantable devices, which have to be controlled at regular intervals or “followed-up”.

During these follow-up visits to our centre, the pain physician or nurse will make sure that your device is working correctly, will also decide if and when the device has to be replaced and will make sure that it is programmed according to your needs.

Can I travel with an implanted device?

Yes. You can travel and fly with an implanted device. If you are travel by plane you should have your travel documentation that you can get at the secretary.

Can I visit a solarium with an implanted device?

Yes you can but only for short periods of time (10 min)

Can I have a MRI if I have an implanted device?

If you have an implanted stimulator you cannot have an MRI, unless the battery is depleted (end of life) or the MRI is absolutely necessary due to a life threatening condition.

If you have an implanted pump you can have a MRI but you have to come to our pain centre before so that we can stop the pump in advance and restart it after the MRI

Is there a patient forum that I can visit?

There is a self support group of patients that have implanted devices such as neurostimulators or pumps. PLease contact us.
